Indore (Madhya Pradesh): On Independence Day, observed as a ‘Dry Day’, the State Excise Department launched a special drive against illicit liquor on the instructions of Assistant Commissioner Abhishek Tiwari.
Raids led by Control Room In-charge Devesh Chaturvedi and Deputy Controller Manoj Agrawal across different parts of the district resulted in the seizure of liquor worth over Rs 12.75 lakh.
The officials have registered 25 cases and seized about 72 bulk litres of country liquor, 36 bulk litres of spirit, 72 bulk litres of beer, 8 litres of illicit hand-distilled liquor along with a two-wheeler and a four-wheeler used for transportation.
In Ambamolia area, a team led by Sub-Inspectors Ashish Jain and Sunil Malviya caught a SUV car carrying 132 quarters of country masala liquor and 10 cans of beer. The accused, Rajesh Jatav was booked and the vehicle and liquor worth Rs 10.2 lakh were seized.

In Chhavni Circle, In-charge BD Ahirwar caught a two-wheeler transporting 100 quarters of country liquor from Bhil Colony. Accused Pawan was booked under the relevant section of MP Excise Act and the seizure including the vehicle was valued around Rs 1.74 lakh.
Additional raids were carried out in Balda Colony, Depalpur, Bombay Bazar, Palasia, Sanwer and Mhow by respective circle officers, leading to further seizures and arrests. Assistant Commissioner Abhishek Tiwari said that the administration is committed to curbing the sale and smuggling of illegal liquor in the district and action against illegal liquor suppliers will continue.
