A horrifying incident unfolded in Amdariya village under the Phephana police station area of Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, where a young man set himself on fire after a marriage proposal was rejected. The victim, who had recently returned home after working elsewhere, arrived at the girl’s doorstep in a dramatic fashion, carrying petrol and pressuring her to agree to marry him.
Eyewitnesses reported that when the girl refused, the enraged youth doused himself in petrol and set himself ablaze right outside her house. Locals initially tried to rescue him but were forced to retreat as the flames grew uncontrollable. Severely burnt, the man was rushed to the district hospital for treatment and later referred to BHU Hospital in Varanasi due to the critical nature of his injuries.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras, and police are actively investigating the matter. Responding to a social media post about the incident, Ballia Police commented, "Upon receiving information in this regard, the local police immediately reached the spot and took the young man to Ballia District Hospital, from where he has been referred to Varanasi for better treatment after primary care. Further legal proceedings are underway."
