Lucknow: High drama unfolded in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Wednesday when two BJP legislators — Rajesh Chaudhary from Mathura and Saurabh Srivastava from Varanasi — got into a heated argument during the monsoon session.
The flashpoint came during a discussion on ‘Vision 2047’ as members decided who would speak for the ruling party. Chaudhary accused Srivastava of deliberately not forwarding his name to the Speaker. The exchange quickly turned ugly, with Chaudhary rising from his seat and moving towards Srivastava, prompting other MLAs to intervene and physically restrain him.
The confrontation, caught on camera, has gone viral on social media. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav posted the video on X, taking a swipe at the BJP for “promoting” leaders with “rude behaviour” and “foul language.”
Chaudhary shot back, questioning Yadav’s silence when cleric Maulana Sajid Rashidi allegedly made misogynistic remarks about his wife and SP MP Dimple Yadav during a TV debate last month. Rashidi, president of the All India Imam Association, had criticised Dimple for visiting a mosque without covering her head.
“If you have even a shred of shame left, respond to the fanatic who insulted your household. We stand with Dimple ji,” Chaudhary retorted in his post.
