Varanasi: In a shocking case of domestic violence, a 44-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district has been arrested for allegedly beating his wife to death merely a week after they were married. The incident took place in Amauli village.
The victim, 26-year-old Aarti Pal from Jaunpur district, had tied the knot with Raju Pal on May 9. According to the police, this was Raju’s third marriage, following the breakdown of two earlier relationships. Friction between the newlyweds reportedly surfaced almost immediately.
“On Thursday night, the couple had a dispute, after which Raju brutally assaulted Aarti,” said Chaubepur Station House Officer (SHO) Jagdish Kuswaha, as quoted by PTI. Neighbours, alarmed by the sounds of violence, informed the authorities. A police team rushed to the scene and found Aarti in critical condition.
She was transported to the Narpatpur Community Health Centre, where medical personnel declared her dead on arrival. “The cause of death appears to be internal injuries caused by severe physical assault,” added Kuswaha, as per the PTI report.
Legal Action Underway, Body Sent for Post-Mortem
Following the incident, Raju Pal was taken into custody, and a case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges of murder. The victim’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, which will help establish the exact cause and timeline of death.
