New Delhi: A second flight carrying Indian immigrants deported from the United States is scheduled to arrive in Amritsar on February 15, according to sources, This comes on the heels of a US, military aircraft landing in Amritsar on February 6 with 104 deported migrants, marking one of the largest deportation operations under President — Donald — Trump's administration.
The decision to land the flight at Amritsar had ignited a controversy, with Punjab Finance — Minister — Harpal Cheema accusing the BIP-led central government of deliberately singling out Punjab.
"The Centre aims at maligning Punjab by ensuring that flights carrying deported Indians land in Amritsar. Why not Haryana or Gujarat? This is a blatant attempt by the BJP to smear Punjab’s image. The aircraft should land in Ahmedabad instead," Cheema asserted.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had earlier confirmed that the US has notified India about "487 presumed Indian nationals" who have been issued removal orders.
