In a veiled message to recalcitrant party leaders to fall in line, the Congress on Friday suspended its Lok Sabha MP Preneet Kaur, the wife of Captain Amarinder Singh, asking her to explain within three days why she should not be expelled for her anti-party activities.

Congress's disciplinary panel member secretary Tariq Anwar said the action follows complaints against her from Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Raja Warring and other state party leaders that she was helping the BJP in the northern state and working for her husband, who has since joined the BJP.

โ€œThe Congress president received a complaint from Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the Punjab PCC president, alleging Preneet Kaur, MP (Lok Sabha) from Patiala, was indulging in anti-party activities to help the BJP. Some other senior Congress leaders of Punjab also shared the same view,โ€ Anwar said.

He said the complaint was referred to the AICC's Disciplinary Action Committee for necessary action.

โ€œThe committee carefully considered it and decided to suspend Preneet Kaur, the Lok Sabha MP from Patiala, from the party with immediate effect. She has been show-caused to reply within three days why she should not be expelled from the party,โ€ Anwar, also the AICC general secretary, said.
