Pahalgam Terror Attack Aftermath: Congress Urges Centre To Oppose IMF's Potential Assistance To Pakistan

The Congress party, currently facing heat from ruling parties for controversial statements given by its leader on the Pahalgam terror attack, on Tuesday urged the Union government to strongly oppose the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) potential assistance to Pakistan.
Taking to X, the Congress general secretary in charge of communication, sharing details about an upcoming IMF meeting scheduled for May 9, said, "The IMF has just announced that its Executive Board is meeting on May 9th, 2025 to consider Pakistan's request for a new $1.3 billion loan under the IMF's Resilience and Sustainability Facility."
"The INC expects India to strongly oppose this assistance," he added.
According to the IMF's 'Executive Board Calendar', a meeting on First Review under the Extended Arrangement Under the Extended Fund Facility, Request for Modification of Performance Criteria, and Request for an Arrangement under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility has been scheduled for May 9.
