'Linguistic Diversity Serves As Foundation Of Our Unity,' Says PM Modi

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday, cautioned against attempts to sow divisions based on language, emphasizing that there has never been any animosity among Indian languages, and that each language has enriched the others.

In the context of a political dispute over the "imposition" of Hindi, Modi reaffirmed that India's languages have always influenced and strengthened one another. “Languages have always interacted and enriched each other," he stated.

The prime minister remarked that whenever attempts were made to create divisions based on language, India’s shared linguistic heritage provided a strong counterpoint.

"It is our social responsibility to distance ourselves from such misconceptions and embrace and enhance all languages," he added.

About PM Modi's Comments

Modi's comments came on the same day Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin reiterated his concerns, asserting that the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) was an effort to impose a three-language formula across the country. Modi went on to say that India's status as one of the oldest living civilizations in the world is due to its continuous evolution, its openness to new ideas, and its willingness to embrace change.

"The fact that India boasts the world’s greatest linguistic diversity is a testament to this. This linguistic diversity serves as the very foundation of our unity," he concluded.
