‘It Will Take Us 13 Minutes To…’:  Political Analyst Tehseen Poonawalla Responds Strongly To Tweet Envisioning ‘Greater Bangladesh’ 

Political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla, on Sunday, responded sharply to a tweet envisioning a "Greater Bangladesh." 

This came after an X user, @mdnahidul01, shared an image promoting the idea of an expanded Bangladesh under the caption: “We also have courage. We can dream.”  

Poonawalla’s reply was firm and uncompromising. “Bro, this dream of yours will turn into your worst nightmare. We treat you as a friend, but if you cross the line, I promise, you will wish you never messed with us. It took us 13 days to create your nation; it will take us 13 minutes to send it to oblivion!! Be clear bro!!” he wrote, referring to India’s role in Bangladesh’s liberation during the 1971 war.  

Concept of “Greater Bangladesh”

The concept of “Greater Bangladesh” often sparks controversy. It refers to the expansionist vision of a Bangladesh that includes regions with significant Bengali-speaking populations, potentially overlapping parts of India and Myanmar.

This online exchange comes against the backdrop of ongoing concerns about the treatment of minorities in Bangladesh. Reports of attacks on religious and ethnic minorities have strained ties between the two neighbouring countries, with both governments urging for restraint and diplomatic dialogue.

Poonawalla’s strong remarks reflect the sensitivity of such provocations in the region. While the “Greater Bangladesh” vision may not hold political weight, it has the potential to ignite emotional and political responses, especially in an already delicate geopolitical environment.
