Indian Army Colonel Tarunendra Pratap Singh's callused knuckles went viral after his UN address on peacekeeping operations. Social media users linked the marks to rigorous military training and speculated about his association with 21 Para Special Forces. His speech highlighted India's peacekeeping contributions and the need to strengthen personnel protection worldwide.

An Indian Army officer's address at the United Nations has caught the internet's attention, but not just for his remarks on India's contribution to global peacekeeping. Colonel Tarunendra Pratap Singh, Military Adviser at India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, has gone viral after viewers noticed the prominent calluses on his knuckles during his speech.
Close-up visuals from his address at the UN General Assembly's Fourth Committee triggered widespread reactions on social media, with users expressing admiration and curiosity over the marks on his hands. Several users linked the calluses to the rigorous physical training associated with elite military units, with references to the Army's 21 Para Special Forces also circulating online.
While his remarks focused on the future of UN peacekeeping operations and the challenges faced by personnel deployed in conflict zones, the visible marks on his knuckles became an unexpected talking point.
Who Is Colonel Tarunendra Pratap Singh?
Colonel Tarunendra Pratap Singh serves as the Military Adviser at India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations. He was appointed to the position around February 2026.
He represented India during the annual debate on the comprehensive review of UN peacekeeping operations in the General Assembly's Fourth Committee in early November.
Some social media posts have also associated him with the Indian Army's 21 Para Special Forces. However, the precise circumstances behind the calluses on his knuckles have not been independently established.
Why Are His Knuckles Going Viral?
Clips and photographs from Colonel Singh's UN address showed prominent calluses across his knuckles, prompting social media users to focus on the visible marks.
Several posts interpreted them as signs of years of physical training and military discipline. Some users suggested that the marks could be associated with knuckle push-ups, hand-to-hand combat training and other forms of physical conditioning practised in demanding military units.
One widely shared sentiment online was that the knuckles reflected the hard work and discipline behind the uniform.
The reactions ranged from admiration for his apparent physical conditioning to curiosity about how military training leaves visible marks on a soldier's hands. However, there has been no confirmed explanation establishing the cause of the calluses.
What Did Colonel Tarunendra Pratap Singh Say At The UN?
Beyond the viral attention, Colonel Singh's address focused on India's longstanding contribution to UN peacekeeping and the need to strengthen the safety and effectiveness of missions worldwide.
Paying tribute to peacekeepers who lost their lives while serving under the UN flag, he highlighted India's contribution of more than 300,000 military personnel across 50 peacekeeping missions. He also noted that 184 Indian peacekeepers have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in these operations.
He emphasised that UN peacekeeping remains essential to maintaining international peace and security, guided by the principles of impartiality, consent of the parties and the limited use of force.
India Calls For Stronger Protection Of UN Peacekeepers
During his address, Colonel Singh called for stronger measures to protect peacekeepers against emerging threats, including asymmetric warfare and technology-enabled attacks.
He also stressed the need to ensure accountability for attacks against UN personnel, highlighting India's contribution to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2589, which addresses accountability for crimes against peacekeepers.
Among India's other recommendations were institutionalised consultations with troop- and police-contributing countries, reviewing missions that lack a clear operational rationale, and accelerating the adoption of modern technology and renewable energy in peacekeeping operations.
He also highlighted the importance of increasing women's participation in peacekeeping. India has deployed women peacekeepers since 1960 and sent the first all-female Formed Police Unit to Liberia in 2007.

Colonel Singh further reiterated that peacekeeping remains an important priority for India as it seeks a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2028–29 term.
India has consistently advocated reforms in peacekeeping operations, particularly greater representation for troop-contributing countries in decision-making and stronger protection for personnel deployed in conflict zones.
While his address placed India's position on international peacekeeping in focus, it was the close-up visuals of his callused knuckles that unexpectedly captured widespread attention online, turning a formal diplomatic appearance into a viral moment.
