Jorhat (Assam): An Indian Air Force (IAF) Antonov AN-32 transport aircraft crashed while landing at the Rowriah Airport, also known as Jorhat Air Force Station, in Assam on Saturday. Five air warriors made supreme sacrifice in the tragedy.
IAF Confirms 5 Casualties
The Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed the death of five personnel in the AN-32 transport aircraft accident at Jorhat in Assam, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of its air warriors.
In an official statement, the IAF said it "deeply regrets" the loss of five personnel who died in the crash and paid tribute to their sacrifice in the line of duty. The deceased have been identified as Squadron Leader Prashant Singh, Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar, Sergeant Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat and Agniveervayu Danish Alam.
"The Indian Air Force deeply regrets the loss of five personnel in the An-32 accident at Jorhat, Assam. Sqn Ldr Prashant Singh, Flt Lt Shubham Kumar, Sgt Jitendra Sharma, Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat and Agniveervayu Danish Alam made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty," the IAF said.
The force also extended its condolences to the families of the deceased personnel and assured them of its support during this difficult time. "IAF extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and stands firmly with them in this hour of grief," the statement added.
According to initial reports, the aircraft met with an accident shortly after landing at the airbase. Visuals emerging from the crash site show the AN-32 extensively damaged, with debris scattered across the area. Defence personnel and emergency responders were seen rushing to the spot and securing the crash site.
The aircraft reportedly caught fire after touchdown, with flames and smoke visible from parts of the wreckage. Firefighting teams were immediately deployed to bring the blaze under control.
Photographs and videos circulating online show the transport aircraft severely damaged following the incident, while security personnel cordoned off the area to facilitate rescue and investigation efforts.
As of now, there are no confirmed reports of casualties or injuries among the crew members. However, there is no information on the pilot of the aircrafy so far. Authorities have not yet released details regarding the number of personnel on board at the time of the crash.

The crash comes months after an Indian Air Force (IAF) Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet crashed into Inglong Ekopi Hill in Bokajan subdivision of Karbi Anglong district during a routine training mission. The aircraft went down about 60 km from Jorhat Air Base.
