Hyderabad: Two women arrested for attacking Goddess Durga & Mother Mary idol in pandal

On Tuesday, two women were arrested for vandalising the idol of Goddess Durga at a pandal installed for Navratri in Hyderabad. In yet another video, the same women are seen vandalising a chapel.

Reportedly, the women barged into the pandal located in Hyderabad's Khairatabad area. One of the women carried a spanner to attack the idol, while the second one attacked the locaks when they tried to stop her.

The TV reports suggest the same women also were seen entering the Rock Memorial Church. The footage showed one of the women desecrating Mother Mary's statue, while the other one stood at a distance.

Both the women are nabbed by the police. The police officials have claimed that the women are mentally unstable.

The DCP of the Central Zone, Hyderabad said, "Four people-mother, father & the two girls-live together. They're mentally ill and have psychological issues. They returned from Jeddah in 2018 and were facing this since then. They've a brother, he's here."

The brother of the two women, Asimduddin said, "I've not met my sisters yet but I've heard what happened, so I've come down. My mother and sisters have schizophrenia, and brother has paranoid schizophrenia. They've never done that. I'm very sorry. They're getting treatment at a hospital. So, I've to continue looking into this."

The DCP further said that a case has been registered under multiple sections of the IPC. "Now, we'll record all the statements. Since he (Asimduddin, the accused's brother) said they've a mental issue, we refer them to the government hospital and then produce them before the Magistrate. It's up to Magistrate, they'll take a call," he added.
