West Bengal: Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Kshudiram Tudu, and Nisith Pramanik on Saturday took oath as members of the Council of Ministers in the Suvendu Adhikari-led government in West Bengal. The grand ceremony was held at Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground. The leaders are likely to handle key portfolios following the BJP's historic victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Prior to them, Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the state's first Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Minister. The swearing-in marked the beginning of West Bengal's first BJP-led government since Independence, ending decades of dominance by regional and Left parties in the politically crucial state.

All About 5 Council Of Ministers

Dilip Ghosh

Known as a core BJP leader, former state unit chief Dilip Ghosh played a key role in strengthening the party’s base since 2016, when it had only three seats. From 1999 to 2007, he was in charge of the RSS in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and also worked as an assistant to former RSS chief K. S. Sudarshan.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 18 out of 42 seats, marking its best performance to date. Ghosh also contested from Medinipur, where he won by defeating TMC's Manas Bhunia.

Agnimitra Paul

The cabinet has just one female member so far, who took the oath today. The 51-year-old Paul has been an Asansol Dakshin stronghold. In the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election, she won from the constituency by over 40,000 votes, defeating TMC's Tapas Banerjee, while in 2021, Paul had won and secured 87,881 votes, defeating TMC's Saayoni Ghosh.

In 2020, Paul was appointed President of the Bengal unit of the BJP Mahila Morcha. In 2021, she was appointed General Secretary of the BJP in Bengal.

Ashok Kirtania

Kirtania also took the oath today in the Adhikari cabinet. In the 2026 polls, he won from the Bangaon Uttar constituency, securing 1,19,317 votes and defeating TMC’s Biswajit Das. In 2021, he had secured 97,761 votes and defeated TMC’s Shyamal Roy.

Kshudiram Tudu

Kshudiram Tudu, the Ranibandh candidate, also took oath as a council minister today. Tudu rose to prominence in the 2026 West Bengal polls, where he secured 55.38 per cent of the votes and defeated TMC's Tanushree Hansda.

Earlier, the BJP leader had also contested from the same constituency in 2021 and 2016 but was defeated in both elections.

Nisith Pramanik

Born in 1986, Nisith Pramanik is the youngest candidate in the Adhikari cabinet. He was part of TMC before joining the BJP in 2019. From 2021 to 2024, he had also served as the Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

In the 2026 WB Polls, he contested from the Mathabhanga constituency and won. He secured 1,43,340 votes, defeating TMC's Sablu.

Meanwhile, the high-profile ceremony witnessed the presence of PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, several Union ministers, and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states. During the oath-taking ceremony, PM Modi was seen seeking blessings and felicitating 98-year-old veteran BJP leader Makhanlal Sarkar.

Not just this, PM Modi was also seen bowing down to the voters of Bengal as he said, "I bow to the Jana Shakti of West Bengal," thanking them for their support for the party.
