Calcutta High Court Asks Jadavpur University Not To Invite Politicians At Varsity Programmes
According to the court sources, the chief Justice also questioned why did the state education minister accept the invitation of the programme when he knew that the situation was not favorable on March 1.

Kolkata: After state education minister Bratya Basu’s convoy was allegedly attacked by Left Front student wing, Calcutta High Court ordered Jadavpur University (JU) not to invite political personalities in the varsity programmes.
The division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Chaitali Chatterjee directed that only academicians can participate in the varsity programmes.
According to the court sources, the chief Justice also questioned why did the state education minister accept the invitation of the programme when he knew that the situation was not favorable on March 1.
The court was hearing a PIL alleging lawlessness and indiscipline in JUU and it also sought court’s intervention in restoring normalcy in the varsity and also for permanent police outpost in the campus of JU.

Notably, a student alleged that during the protest he got injured due to the education minister’s car.
After the High Court’s earlier order a FIR was lodged by the injured student.
Meanwhile, the division bench of Calcutta High Court’s Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam asks the government of West Bengal to file an affidavit regarding the administration’s planning over the pending elections for students’ unions in all educational institutions within the next two weeks.
