Lucknow: A new book titled “Khud Hi Ko Kar Buland Itna” celebrates the remarkable life and legacy of renowned Islamic scholar, reformer, and social activist Dr. Kalbe Sadiq. Authored by his son, Dr. Qalb-e-Noori, the biography offers an intimate and comprehensive account of a man who dedicated his life to the educational and moral upliftment of the Muslim community in India.
Born in 1939, Dr. Kalbe Sadiq rose to prominence for his progressive views, unyielding integrity, and deep rooted spirituality. A staunch believer in social reform and self reliance, he became a voice of reason and reform, urging the community to abandon superstition, extravagance, and social evils. Posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2021, the award serves as national recognition of his lifelong commitment to public service.
The book delves into multiple facets of Dr. Sadiq’s personality, his disciplined routine, unwavering faith in God, rejection of practices like lottery and talisman use, and his passionate advocacy for education as the bedrock of true empowerment. His contributions to zardozi artisans and the establishment of institutions such as Unity College are presented as lasting testaments to his mission.
Through poignant anecdotes and recollections, the book also highlights Dr. Sadiq’s personal frustrations with those who misuse religious platforms for personal gain, as well as his strong disapproval of wasteful expenditures, especially in marriage ceremonies, which according to him is major root of evils in society, as such extravagance creates a competition of vanity in society, creating an unecessary burden on have-nots who are forced to comply.
