Kolkata: Coming out of Governor House on Thursday, TMC state general secretary and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh urged that the BJP should not ‘overdo’ with the comments of TMC MP Mahua Moitra on Goddess Kali and also mentioned that BJP national vice president had earlier had ‘demeaned’ Goddess Durga.

“The BJP should not make an issue on Mahua Moitra’s comment on Maa Kali. There are various ways and rituals to worship the Goddess. Each way is unique. BJP should also take action against their party leader Dilip Ghosh as earlier he had questioned Ma Durga’s ancestors,” mentioned Ghosh.

Earlier on February 13, 2021, Dilip Ghosh said that Lord Ram is ‘Maryada Puroshottam’ and also mentioned that no one knows about the ancestors of Durga.

“Lord Ram was the emperor and we all know about his ancestors. He is Maryada Purushottam. But no one knows about the ancestors of Durga,” BJP national vice president was heard saying.

Meanwhile, amidst several FIRs lodged by the BJP leaders across the state, TMC MP Mahua Moitra taking to Twitter said, “I do not want to live in an India where BJP’s monolithic patriarchal brahmanical view of Hinduism will prevail & rest of us will tiptoe around religion. I will defend this till I die. File your FIRs - will see you in every court in the land.”

“BJP double standards not only for Goddesses but plastic waste management rules too! Rules relaxed for RSS-backed Laghu Bharti while Amul & Parle Agro denied relaxation for integrated straws, Love how office memo of @moefcc cc’s Laghu Bharti!,” further tweeted Mahua.

TMC MP Saugata Roy, meanwhile, said the party has not taken any decision regarding taking disciplinary action against Moitra.

"We don't approve of such comments. TMC has respect for all religions & party doesn't want to get into any religious controversies. That's our party's statement in all religions matter," he said. "We have not taken any decision regarding taking disciplinary action. The party's still considering and will make a decision at an appropriate time" he added.
