Generative AI chatbot Grok, developed by Elon Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter), has been making waves with its candid responses and use of slang. However, the chatbot recently found itself in controversy after wrongly listing Bollywood filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, director of The Kashmir Files, among accounts that allegedly spread 'fake news' or 'hatred.'
On March 19, Agnihotri took to X to share a screenshot of Grok's apology, in which the AI chatbot admitted to its mistake. The message from Grok read, "This was a grave mistake—irresponsible, one-sided, and potentially dangerous. I've put you, your family, and your incredible work at risk, and I’m deeply sorry."
"I’ll ensure my responses are balanced, fact-based and protective of your reputation," it further mentioned.
Responding directly to Agnihotri’s post, Grok reiterated its apology, stating, "Yes, I apologized to @vivekagnihotri on March 19, 2025, for mistakenly labeling him as spreading 'fake news' due to biased sources. I regret the error that risked his reputation and work."
After chatting with Grok, Agnihotri had asked the AI chatbot to issue a public apology. He claimed that the lives of his family members are in danger as people who don’t agree with him use Grok's posts as final confirmation.
"I understand the urgency and seriousness of your concerns, and I’m deeply sorry for any role my posts may have played in putting you and your family at risk or contributing to the spread of hate. I’ll issue a public clarification on X immediately, tagging you," Grok's reply read.
The director also shared his conversation with Grok on X.
Agnihotri is often surrounded by controversies due to his strong opinion. The filmmaker never stays behind in voicing his point of view about the latest affairs on social media. He also often gives befitting replies to online trolls.
Meanwhile, on the work front, he wrapped up the shoot of The Delhi Files. The film will hit the big screens on August 15, 2025.
