Kannada actress Ramya reveals she contemplated suicide after father's death: 'Rahul Gandhi supported me emotionally'

Popular actress-turned politician Ramya aka Divya Spandana recently opened up about the most difficult phase of her life. She also revealed that she had contemplated suicide and credited Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for supporting her during her trying times.
Ramya recently appeared on a chat show and said that she was in Parliament just two weeks after she lost her father. She said she channelled her grief towards her work and people of Mandya gave her confidence.

"My mother is the biggest influence in my life, next is my father, and third is Rahul Gandhi. When I lost my father, I had hit rock bottom. I did contemplate ending my life. I had become a recluse. I had also lost the election. It was a period of grief. During that time, Rahul Gandhi helped me and supported me emotionally too," she reportedly said.
Ramya's journey in films and politics
Ramya made her movie debut with Puneeth Rajkumar's 2003 Kannada film Abhi. She announced quitting movies to pursue her career in politics in 2012. In the same year, she joined Congress as a member of its youth wing.
Ramya later won a 2013 by-election to become a Member of Parliament for Mandya constituency in Karnataka, but was defeated in the general elections the following year.
However, Ramya made a comeback to the film industry in 2014 with Aryan. She the starred in Nagarahavu in 2016.
She will next be seen in Uttarakhanda which is all set to release in 2023.
