Sonam Kapoor says welcoming a child is a 'selfish decision': 'They didn't choose to come into this world'

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor welcomed her first child with husband Anand Ahuja on August 20.

The couple has been blessed with a baby boy and congratulatory wishes have been pouring in from all corners of the country.

While Sonam is over the moon with her baby boy in her arms, she feels that welcoming a child is a "selfish decision".

In an interview with Vogue, Sonam stated how it is not the child's decision to be born into this world. She also mentioned how priorities change after embracing parenthood, and that her son is now her topmost priority.

"Priorities do change and I think that the child will become mine. The truth of the matter is that they didn’t choose to come into this world. You decided to bring them here, so it’s a very selfish decision," she said.

She also flaunted her baby bump on the magazine's cover and the new mommy looks nothing but radiant in the photo.

Announcing the birth of their baby boy on Saturday, Sonam and Anand released a joint statement, which read, "On 20.08.2022, we welcomed our beautiful baby boy with bowed heads and open hearts. Thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, friends and family who have supported us on this journey. It's only the beginning, but we know our lives are forever changed."

Sonam and Anand tied the knot on May 8, 2018, in a grand ceremony in Mumbai. The actress is presently in the city at her parents Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor's house.

On the work front, Sonam will next be seen in the film 'Blind', which also stars Purab Kohli, Vinay Pathak, and Lillete Dubey in supporting roles. The film is a remake of the same-named Korean film of 2011. The actors finished filming in February 2021. It is directed by Shome Makhija and produced by Sujoy Ghosh.
