Selfiee Box Office Collection Day 1: Akshay Kumar sees biggest flop in over a decade as film opens with ₹3 crore

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar continues his streak of back-to-back flops as his latest release 'Selfiee' also failed to make a mark at the box office.

'Selfiee', which released in theatres on February 24, witnessed shockingly low collections on its first day, despite the out-of-the-box promotions and large-scale marketing.

'Selfiee' also stars Emraan Hashmi, Diana Penty and Nushrratt Bharuccha, and it has received rave reviews from the audiences.

According to a report in Indian Express, 'Selfiee' managed to earn only Rs 3 crore at the ticket windows on its first day.

Across the country's theatres, it registered an occupancy of just 9.95 per cent, which is even lower than what most of the trade analysts had predicted.

The first day collection of 'Selfiee' is reportedly the lowest that an Akshay Kumar-film has recorded in over a decade. His last film which had opened with less than Rs 5 crore was 'OMG Oh My God!' back in 2010.

It is to be noted that Akshay has had a disastrous 2022 with all of his films released in the year -- 'Samrat Prithviraj', 'Ram Setu', 'Bachchan Paandey' -- miserably failing at the box office. 'Selfiee' was the actor's first film of 2023.

About Selfiee

'Selfiee' is the official Hindi remake of Malayalam film 'Driving License'.

The film shows Akshay play a superstar and Emraan essays the role of a cop attached with the city's traffic department, who finds out that his favourite star does not have a driver's license.

The story takes off when Akshay's character refuses to spare Emraan a selfie, and the cop thus decides to teach the superstar a lesson.

'Selfiee' is produced by the late Aruna Bhatia, Hiroo Yash Johar, Supriya Menon, Karan Johar, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Apoorva Mehta and Listin Stephen.
