Akshaye Khanna reveals how Aamir Khan took his role in Taare Zameen Par for himself

'Taare Zameen Par' (2007), the iconic movie won hearts with its portrayal of the bond between a teacher and student. The film starred Aamir Khan and follows an 8-year-old boy (Darsheel Safary) suffering from dyslexia. The teacher (Aamir) not only makes the boy overcome his disability by adopting unconventional teaching methods but also changes the attitude of his parents toward him. The film won a National Award.

Actor Akshaye Khanna, who worked with Aamir in 'Dil Chahta Hai', recently told Mid-Day, that he was the first choice by the film’s other director Amole Gupte for the role of art teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh.

Amol had asked Aamir to narrate the script to Akshaye and have him on board. Akshaye revealed, “Aamir being Aamir, told him (Amol) I cannot recommend a script unless I hear it first. So make me hear it, if I will like it, I will tell Akshaye. But he (Aamir) liked it so much that he did it. I don’t think I could have done a better job than Aamir. He was superb. So it was good that destiny kind of took him."

Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshaye will next be seen in the suspense thriller 'Drishyam 2' which also stars Ajay Devgn and Tabu.

The police are still investigating Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay) and his family. And the investigation is led by actor Akshaye Khanna.

Helmed by Abhishek Pathak, the film also stars Ishita Dutta, Rajat Kapoor, and Shriya Saran in the lead roles and is all set to hit the theatres on November 18, 2022. The Hindi version, headlined by Ajay, was a remake of 2013's Malayalam movie of the same name, starring Mohanlal as the lead. It was helmed by National-Award-winning director Nishikant Kamat, who died in 2020 at the age of 50.
