Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, who is all set to present his labour of love 'Laal Singh Chaddha' to the audience on August 11, has apologised to the people ahead of the release.

'Laal Singh Chaddha' has been mired with controversies ever since the first look and the trailer of the film were released. People have been trending '#BoycottLaalSinghChaddha' on social media, and some even went on to label Aamir as an 'anti-national'.

However, the actor has now issued an apology to the countrymen and said that he does not want to hurt anyone. "If I have hurt anyone by any means, I regret it. I don't want to hurt anyone. If someone doesn't want to watch the film, I'd respect their sentiment," he said.

Earlier, Aamir had mentioned during an interaction that people think he "does not like India" and it makes him sad. "Please don't boycott my film. Please watch my film," he had pleaded.

Talking about the controversial statement in question, in 2015, Aamir had said in an interview, "Our country is very tolerant, but there are people who spread ill-will". His wife Kiran Rao had also made headlines for saying that she considered leaving the country for the "safety of their children".

Meanwhile, besides Aamir, 'Laal Singh Chaddha' also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya in key roles. The film is an official remake of the 1994 classic 'Forrest Gump', which had Tom Hanks in the lead role.
