The makers of Bhooth Bangla, starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, have postponed the release of the film following the strong box office performance of Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Producer Ektaa Kapoor shared an official note on Thursday (April 2) announcing the revised release date of the horror-comedy.

The film, which was earlier scheduled to arrive in theatres on April 10, will now release on April 16, with its first show starting at 9 pm. The first day of its release will be a 'paid preview' day.

In the statement, the makers explained that the decision was taken after discussions with distributors and exhibitors.

"After a collective call with our distributors and the exhibitors, we have decided on a new release date for Bhooth Bangla, 16th April, with the first show starting at 9 pm. Dhurandhar: The Revenge performing exceptionally well is a heartening news for our film industry and the exhibitors feel that this shift will allow both films, the space, focus and attention they deserve," the note read.

According to the makers, the change in release date is aimed at ensuring that both films get adequate screen space and attention at the box office. It further mentioned, "The Bhooth Bangla team looks forward to welcoming you in cinemas on April 16th 9 pm onwards."

A few days back, Akshay had expressed happiness over the film’s performance and its impact on Hindi cinema.

In an interview with IANS, Akshay spoke about the film’s impressive run and the larger benefits it brings to Bollywood. Akshay also addressed the timing of his upcoming release, Bhooth Bangla, which was set to hit theatres on April 10. He shared that a three-week gap between two films is adequate and does not pose any issues.

He said, "I am very happy that the film is running so well and attracting such large audiences. It has taken Indian cinema to a new level, which is very encouraging. Three weeks is usually sufficient, and here we are talking about 21 days... This is good for the industry and also gives you opportunities to do more interviews. If films don’t perform, there would be no platform for such interactions".

While Dhurandhar leans heavily into action and realism for a more mature audience, Akshay said that his film is designed as a family entertainer.

Bhooth Bangla marks Akshay’s reunion with director Priyadarshan. The horror-comedy also features Paresh Rawal, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rajpal Yadav, Mithila Palkar, Jisshu Sengupta, and Manoj Joshi in key roles.
