In a shocking incident at a government school in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, a seventh-grade student was allegedly beaten by her teacher, identified as Abhinaya. The reason for the assault? The student's parents own a beef shop. According to reports, Abhinaya not only physically assaulted the girl but also subjected her to further humiliation by making her wipe the shoes of her classmates.
Parents' petition
As per the reports by The New Indian Express, the parents' petition stated the teacher had shown bias against children from the minority community, particularly those wearing hijabs. "Two months ago, the teacher asked my child about my occupation. My child had told her that I run a beef and meat shop. Two weeks ago, the teacher beat up my child and criticized our eating habit of beef consumption."
The situation escalated when, two weeks ago, the teacher allegedly assaulted the student and criticized the family's choice of consuming beef.
Despite the parents bringing the matter to the attention of the school's headmistress, they claimed that no action was taken, and the headmistress allegedly supported the accused teacher. Frustrated with the lack of response, the family approached the CEO, filing a formal complaint against the teacher and the school's administration.
Taking cognizance of the severity of the allegations, the Tamil Nadu education department has launched an investigation into the case.
