SEBC, OBC Candidates Must Submit Caste Validity Certificates By August 1 Or Risk Losing Admission: Maharashtra CET Cell

The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell on Friday issued a formal reminder to candidates admitted under the Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC) and Other Backward Class (OBC) categories for the academic year 2024–25 to submit their Caste Validity Certificates (CVCs) by August 1. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of admission, the CET Cell warned.

Two separate notices—one pertaining to medical and other professional courses, and another covering technical education—were issued by Commissioner Dilip Sardesai on Tuesday.

“Candidates who have not yet submitted their caste validity certificate are hereby informed that an additional period of three months from the date of the government decision dated 2 May 2025 has been granted for submission,” the notices stated.

The CET Cell clarified that candidates who already possess a valid caste validity certificate must submit it without delay. “Candidates who have received their original caste validity certificate must submit the same to the respective college within the stipulated time,” the notice related to medical and professional courses said.

Those who have not yet received their certificate are required to obtain it from the district scrutiny committee and submit it to the college upon receipt. “Candidates who have not yet obtained the certificate must do so from the concerned district scrutiny committee before 1 August 2025 and submit it to the college immediately,” it added.

For candidates admitted through the technical education department, the notice instructed that even if the certificate has been submitted to the college, it must still be uploaded through the candidate’s login on the CAP (Centralised Admission Process) portal.

Colleges have also been asked to ensure compliance. “Colleges must verify whether caste validity certificates have been uploaded and submitted by all candidates admitted under SEBC and OBC categories,” the notices stated.

The CET Cell underlined that any candidate who fails to submit the certificate within the extended deadline may lose their admission and would bear full responsibility for the outcome. “The candidate shall be solely responsible for cancellation of admission,” it said.

Authorities have advised colleges to notify concerned students promptly and ensure timely uploading of all pending documents.
