Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Launches Its Own Postgraduate Medical Institute, Boosting Healthcare & Education
A total of 22 students have been admitted across five key medical branches, marking the beginning of postgraduate medical education at NMMC's Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray Hospital in Nerul and the Public Hospital in Vashi.

Navi Mumbai: In a significant step towards enhancing medical education and healthcare services, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has officially commenced its own 'Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science.' The institution has received necessary approvals from the Central and State Governments, as well as the National Medical Commission, paving the way for advanced medical training within the city's public hospitals.
About The Institute
A total of 22 students have been admitted across five key medical branches, marking the beginning of postgraduate medical education at NMMC's Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray Hospital in Nerul and the Public Hospital in Vashi. The approved specializations include Medicine (4 seats), Orthopedics (2 seats), Gynecology (8 seats), Pediatrics (4 seats), and Surgery (4 seats). The academic session for 2024-25 has officially commenced, with students now undergoing training in these disciplines.

Additionally, the Rajmata Jijau Hospital in Airoli has admitted four students under the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) program. These include two students each in the Gynecology and Pediatrics branches, further strengthening the postgraduate medical education offerings in Navi Mumbai.
"We have ensured that all necessary infrastructure is in place at the hospitals in Vashi and Nerul. A dedicated team of deans, professors, assistant professors, and essential staff has been appointed to facilitate high-quality medical education and training," a NMMC official said.

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde highlighted the impact of this initiative, emphasizing that MBBS doctors will now have the opportunity to pursue higher education within NMMC hospitals. The presence of trained postgraduate doctors will significantly enhance patient care and strengthen the municipal health department, ultimately improving healthcare services for Navi Mumbai residents, Dr Shinde claimed.
