Guwahati: St. Francis de Sales (SFS) School in Guwahati has initiated an internal inquiry after allegations surfaced on social media regarding the creation and circulation of AI-generated deepfake images purportedly involving students and staff members.

The allegations emerged around June 11 through social media posts and online discussions. According to claims circulating online, a male student allegedly created and distributed digitally manipulated explicit images using artificial intelligence technology. The posts alleged that the images involved multiple victims, including female students and teachers, and were shared among classmates and through online platforms.

The allegations, which have not been independently verified, triggered widespread concern among students, parents and members of the public, with calls for a thorough investigation and appropriate action.

In a press release issued on Friday, the school stated that it became aware of the allegations on June 11 at around 12.30 pm.

“Upon receiving the information, the school authority immediately initiated its established procedures. The matter has been referred to the appropriate committees including the Child Abuse Monitoring Committee (CAMC), and a preliminary inquiry is underway. Meetings also have been held with the concerned parents and guardians,” the statement said.

The school emphasised that issues relating to student safety, dignity, privacy and responsible use of technology are treated with utmost seriousness.

“St. Francis De Sales School maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards cyber misconduct, bullying, harassment, misuse of digital platforms and any behaviour that may adversely affect the well-being of students or staff,” the release stated.

The school further informed that, as an interim measure, the students directly involved have been placed under suspension pending completion of the inquiry.

“Upon completion of the inquiry, further action will be taken in accordance with school regulations and applicable laws. Until the inquiry is completed, we urge all students and parents to refrain from circulating unverified information, images or content related to the matter, as doing so may cause further distress and interfere with the investigation process,” the statement added.

The school said the inquiry is currently underway and that further action will be determined based on its findings and applicable legal provisions.

Meanwhile another student from Delhi Public School, Guwahati is also reported to be suspended from the school for same activities.
