Shaheed Bhagat Singh College at Delhi University made headlines again for denying nearly 100 students their exam admit cards due to attendance falling below 40 percent. This is the second time within a month that such measures have been taken by the college.
The notice specifically mentioned that students enrolled in the BA and BCom programs would not receive admit cards if their attendance in any semester dipped below the 40 percent mark. Arun Kumar Attree, the college principal, indicated that a subsequent notification would address students with inadequate attendance in the evening batch.
The college is adhering to Delhi University norms, which mandate a minimum attendance threshold for students to be eligible for exams. Attree highlighted concerns about some students' casual approach to attending classes, noting instances where students enroll but are primarily focused on competitive exams or pursue parallel courses. However, exceptions will be considered for students engaged in sports or cultural activities, aligning with university norms.
Earlier, on December 8, the college barred 1,397 students from Honours programs from participating in exams due to inadequate attendance.
Students falling between the 40 percent to 66.66 percent attendance range are required to submit an undertaking by December 12 to compensate for their deficient attendance in the upcoming semester. Failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe will result in the denial of admit cards, as outlined in the notice.
For students unable to meet the minimum attendance criteria due to legitimate reasons, they have the option to submit supporting documents or information to the administration by 5 pm on December 12. The administration will review these submissions to make decisions on a case-by-case basis.
