'Restaurants, Take Note': YouTuber Ishan Sharma's 'Review' Draws Mixed Reactions From Netizens

Restaurants and other eating establishments are a part of the larger socio-economic fabric, as they indicate consumption and changing patterns of preferences in an economy.

No Service Charge

However, what these establishments charge and, at the end of the meal, bill us is often a topic of discussion that draws opinions.

Ishan Sharma, a YouTuber and internet influencer, recently took to his social media profile to share his experience with an eatery.

Sharma has previously made it to the news for his net worth and his interview with controversial entrepreneur Ashneer Grover.

Sharma, once again took to X to share a receipt that, according to him should inspire another establishment to try and follow suit.

In his post, he shared the receipt of a meal that he had. The receipt in bold letter said, that the restaurant does not levy service charges.

In the post, Sharma added, "Restaurants, take note!"

Netizens on X were quick to respond to this. Many of those who reacted to this post however had another area of focus.

Sky High Prices

Many looked at the nature of the bill and the items enlisted in the bill.

Some focused on the extravagant prices. Here, one of the items, Paneer Kurchan is stated to be worth Rs 2,900. Another item, Dal Bukhara is worth Rs 1,200. In addition, 3 units of Pudina parathas were worth Rs 1,125, with one single paratha amounting to worth Rs 375. Another Khasta Roti was also worth Rs 375. And Paneer Makhni worth Rs 2,900.

Netizens React

Many X users took cognizance of this. One user quipped, "Jitne paise aapne Panneer Makhni ke pay kiye hain utne mein Darbhanga University mein MA ho jaati hai." Thereby highlighting the mammoth pricing of the product.

Another user said, "2900 for paneer makhani, 1125 for a paratha, 400 for a roti. Bhai wtf."

Looking at the rate of GST mentioned in the bill, one user enquired, "Why is GST 18% and not 5%?"

This is because, under the current GST regime, restaurants come in the 5 per cent slab.

Another user, once again highlighted the price of the items in question. The user said, "The amount you've paid is already much higher."

A user commented in Hindi and added, "Itne mein to 10 log khana kha lenge bhai. Upar se likha hai we levy no service charge. Ehsan kar rahe ho kha bhai."

One user added, "What to increase price to a point that they don’t need service charge separately."

"Jitne ki Paneer Makhani hai utni meri MBBS ki 2nd year ki fees this." added another user."

It is to be noted, that this came to pass at ITC's Peshwari, an elite eatery in Mumbai.
