LPG Distributors Issue Ultimatum, Threaten Indefinite Strike In 3 Months

Bhopal: Mumbai: The LPG Distributors Federation has issued a stern warning to the central government, threatening an indefinite countrywide strike if their long-standing demands are not fulfilled within three months. The announcement came during the association’s national convention held on Saturday in Bhopal.

President of the association, BS Sharma, confirmed that the collective decision was taken after consulting representatives from various states. The central demand is a significant hike in the commission provided to LPG distributors, which they say is currently too low to cover their operational expenses.

"The present commission does not match the actual cost of operations. We have officially submitted a letter to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas outlining our demands," Sharma said.

Forced Deliveries and Ujjwala Scheme Issues Raised

The association has also raised concerns over oil companies allegedly pushing non-domestic LPG cylinders onto distributors without actual demand. They argue that this violates legal provisions and complicates logistics.

"This forced supply practice should be stopped immediately," the letter stated. The distributors also highlighted challenges faced in the distribution of LPG cylinders under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, urging the government to streamline processes for better efficiency and compliance.

Three-Month Deadline Set

The letter warns that failure to address these concerns within the stipulated three-month period will trigger an indefinite, nationwide strike. The association emphasized that the protest will be peaceful but resolute.

"We are giving the government ample time. If there is no action within three months, we will have no choice but to go on strike," Sharma concluded.

The ball is now in the government’s court, as the threat of a disrupted LPG supply looms over millions of households and businesses across India.
