Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): On the occasion of World Environment Day, Gwalior Collector Ruchika Singh Chauhan left behind her luxury official car and chose an e-rickshaw to reach her office.

Her unusual step generated curiosity among locals. She also urged everyone to minimize the use of fuel-based vehicles and take simple actions like walking or planting trees to protect the environment.

On the morning of World Environment Day, people in Gwalior were surprised to see Collector Ruchika Singh Chauhan riding an e-rickshaw instead of her usual government vehicle.

Many asked among themselves, “Why is Collector Madam not in her car today?” The answer left them inspired.

Ruchika Singh chose eco-friendly mode of transport to raise awareness among the locals about environmental protection. “Even small changes in our daily routine can make a big difference for the environment,” she said.

She also encouraged residents to walk if their destination is nearby and to consider green transport whenever possible.

She did not just stop at just one message. The Collector shared plans for a large-scale tree plantation drive in the district and urged every citizen to plant at least one tree especially in the name of their mothers-as a symbol of love and care for nature.

World Environment Day, observed every year on June 5, aims to encourage awareness and action for the protection of the environment. With climate change and pollution on the rise, leaders and citizens alike are urged to take responsibility.

By arriving in an e-rickshaw, Collector Ruchika Singh Chauhan not only left people talking but also reminded everyone that real change begins with individual action.
