Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Investors from Mumbai are making substantial land investments in Bhopal, particularly in the Sewaniya Gond area, signalling a growing trend of land speculation in the city's outskirts. Builders and developers have also increasingly focused their attention on the outskirts, marking the emergence of new land sharks in Bhopal.
According to district administration revenue records, Mumbai-based investor Rohini Devi Frederick has acquired an impressive amount of land in the Sewaniya Gond (Suraj Nagar) region, totalling around 35 hectares across 18 different khasra numbers.
The records indicate land acquisitions across various khasra numbers, including 1 hectare in Khasra number 43, 6.5 hectares in Khasra number 45, 4 hectares in Khasra number 47, 3.5 hectares in Khasra number 52, 4 hectares in Khasra number 53, 2.5 hectares in Khasra number 54, 5.7 hectares in Khasra number 57, 0.8 hectares in Khasra number 59, 0.88 hectares in Khasra number 60, 1.17 hectares in Khasra number 62, 3.3 hectares in Khasra number 108, 2.1 hectares in Khasra number 107, and over 1 hectare in Khasra number 106/1.
Social activist Amitabh Agnihotri expressed concern over the scale of investment, stating that the sheer volume of land holdings in multiple khasra numbers under one person’s name in Bhopal’s outskirts calls for investigation.
He said, “Such large-scale investments from a single person in the outskirts of Bhopal demand thorough scrutiny from the administration. The authorities should investigate the status of such investors from Mumbai.”
Tehsildar (TT Nagar) Kunal Rao said that the district administration is actively reviewing the records and working to verify the details. “Our team is already working to update the revenue department’s records and we will carry out a khasra-wise investigation in Sewaniya Gond to ensure the legitimacy of these land acquisitions,” he said.
