Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions have damaged around 25% of kharif crops across 5–6 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh, with estimated loss pegged at ₹5,000 crore. The most affected districts include Morena, Guna, Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, Rewa, Damoh, Raisen, Sagar and Vidisha.
Crops like soyabean, urad, moong, maize and paddy have suffered major damage due to waterlogging, strong winds and flooded fields, which have led to crop lodging and risk of disease outbreaks. According to agriculture department sources, soyabean alone has been damaged in 40,000 hectares. Assessment of the full extent of damage will be clearer once water levels recede.
Farmer Kedar Sirohi said, “Kharif crops worth ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 crore have been damaged across several districts, especially in the Narmada river belt and Gwalior-Chambal region. About 25% of crop loss has occurred in over 5 lakh hectares.”
Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) state president Kamal Anjana called for a government-led survey, saying, “There is severe crop loss in many districts. Soyabean and maize have been badly hit, affecting nearly 5–6 lakh hectares with losses exceeding ₹5,000 crore.”
