Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Over 40 days after the Director General of Police (DGP) issued instructions to collect details of officers serving over 10 years in the same district or agency, several field units are yet to respond, exposing a lack of seriousness towards Police Headquarters (PHQ) orders.
The DGP had written a letter on February 18, instructing officials to submit data of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), Inspectors, and Sub-Inspectors posted in any district or unit for more than a decade, with a submission deadline of February 25.
However, sources say many unit heads have failed to comply. The PHQ had sent letters to the DG Lokayukta, DG EOW, CID and Superintendents of Police (SPs) across all districts, as well as units like STF, ATS, SCRB, Cyber Cell, Narcotics and Radio Branches. Yet, the required point-wise data has not reached PHQ.
PHQ officials now plan to issue reminders to non-compliant units. If there's no response in the next few days, formal reminders will be dispatched, said sources.
Sources said the motive behind this exercise is to prevent officers from developing long-term influence in a single district. “Posting in the same place for 10+ years affects the impartiality of the force,” said an official.
Reshuffle likely in June-July
Once complete data is collected and updated, the PHQ is expected to carry out transfers and postings of long-serving officers. If unit reports arrive by April, sources say the reshuffle may take place by June-July.
What DGP has asked for
The DGP has sought names, ranks, total duration of posting in years and months, along with current designations and present postings of such officers.
