Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Congress MLA has written to the director general (prison) to permit holding a general ‘open meet’ on the occasion of Eid in Bhopal Central jail, here on Thursday.
The letter comes following the direction of Bhopal central jail superintendent Rakesh Kumar wherein the families of the inmates have been informed that there would be no ‘open meet’ this time but the normal meeting will continue as per the schedule.
The jail superintendent cited various construction works underway on the jail premises. The raw material is spread over the places where the meet is being organised.
The MLA said that for the past 40-45 years open meetings have been organized peacefully on the jail premises and no untoward incident had ever happened.

Such events give minority community jail inmates an opportunity to meet with their families and relatives in a joyous environment, said the MLA, adding that this has been a tradition in the city for years.
Appealing to authorities to take a humanitarian and sympathetic view of the matter, the Congress leader urged the officer to issue instructions to the Jail Superintendent, Central Jail, Bhopal to make arrangements for allowing prisoners to meet their families and relatives openly on the occasion of Eid.
