Chhatarpur (Madhya Pradesh): In Sarsed village near Harpalpur town, about 60 km from Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district headquarters, there is a beautiful and ancient Shiva temple known as Bhuteshwar Mahadev.

This temple, built in the 6th century by the Naga kings, is carved out of stone and is located in the lap of a mountain.

On the second Shravan Somwar, a large number of Shiva devotees gather here to perform Jalabhishek (offering water to Lord Shiva).

According to historians, this temple was built during the rule of Nagaraja Shantideva.

It is believed that during a famine in the region, Nagaraja worshiped Lord Shiva. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva appeared in his dream and showed him the source of water in the mountain.

Even today, five water ponds can be seen near the temple in the mountain, which remain filled with water throughout the year - even during times of drought.

A special feature of the Bhuteshwar temple is the large rock placed on the Shivling. It is believed that this rock rises by the size of a rice grain every five years. Devotees who visit the temple first perform parikrama (circumambulation) of the Shivling. Nowadays, many people do the parikrama while sitting comfortably.

Ganesh Temple and Cave

The Ganesh temple and a cave located near the temple also attract devotees. Thousands of local devotees flock to the temple to see Shiva. Every Monday of Shravan, special worship and Jalabhishek are organized here. Devotees come here from far and wide and with full devotion, they offer water to Bholenath and wish for happiness and peace in their life.

This temple is not only a symbol of religious faith, but due to its historical importance, it also remains a center of curiosity and inquisitiveness for the people.
