Bhopal: Supreme Court Dismisses LOP Umang Singhar’s Wife’s Special Leave Petition

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the SLP filed by Pratibha Mudgal, wife of Leader of Opposition (LOP) Umang Singhar against him.

Singhar's wife Pratibha Mudgal had filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court, alleging that her husband Umang Singhar allegedly took the life of his ‘live-in partner’ and ‘framed the case as a suicide’ In May 2021. The 39-year-old woman was found dead in a bedroom in Singhar's bungalow in Bhopal's Shahpura locality.

Besides, in 2022 Pratibha Mudgal had registered FIR with Nowgong police station with charges of rape with her. The High Court had quashed the FIR on September 2023. LOP Umang Singhar informed Free Press, ‘SC dismissed it today stating that the SLP was filed with malafide intension. It was dismissed at motion hearing. It is totally politically motivated issue and below the belt attack. SLP is being filed again and again so SC also observed these things and ultimately it dismissed.

Collector removes councillor for fake caste certificate

Bhopal district collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh issued order to remove Shabana Shoaib Qureshi, the councillor of ward number 7 in Berasia municipal council from her position after an investigation revealed that her caste certificate was forged.

Collector Singh issued the removal order, also barring Qureshi from contesting election for the next six years. Qureshi, who had won election under Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) banner, had submitted an OBC caste certificate issued by SDM Huzur to qualify for the seat reserved for OBC woman.

However, a petition filed by defeated candidate Parveen Be led to an investigation, which found the caste certificate to be fake. The inquiry by TT Nagar SDM confirmed the forgery.

As per collector's ruling, Qureshi's removal is in accordance with Section 41(1) of Madhya Pradesh Municipality Act, 1961. Under Section 41(3), she is prohibited from contesting elections for next six years.

In the election, Qureshi had competed against BJP, Congress and AAP and independent candidate Parveen Be.
