As Hemant Khandelwal Becomes BJP’s Madhya Pradesh Chief, Mohan Emerges Stronger
It’s after 19 years that an MLA has been made party’s state chief.
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A new political equation is cropping up in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state. A legislator from Betul, Hemant Khandelwal, has been made president of the party’s state unit at Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s choice.
Khandelwal is close to senior functionary of the RSS Suresh Soni and the BJP’s senior leader Saudan Singh. Now that Khandelwal has become the president of the state party unit, Yadav will emerge stronger.
Yadav, who pulls the strings in the government, will look more powerful now. VD Sharma was the BJP’s state president before Yadav took over as chief minister.
VD has full control over the organisation, but Khandelwal is new to it. Yadav had been associated with the RSS and the ABVP. Ergo, he understands the organisation pretty well.
Against this backdrop, there will be a fine coordination between the government and the organisation. Both Yadav and Khandelwal have the Soni’s backing.
Since both of them are closely associated with each other, there will be better coordination between the CM and the party’s state president. By making Khandelwal the party’s state president, the BJP repeated the history of 2006.
In 2006, Narendra Singh Tomar was elected the party’s state unit president on then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s choice. After 19 years, an MLA has been given the reins of the organisation. In the past years, MPs were elected the party’s state unit president.
As Khandelwal is also close to Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the latter will be more powerful in the state.
VD to get responsible in Delhi
Now that Hemant Khandelwal has become the party’s state president, there are possibilities that VD Sharma will get some important assignments in Delhi.
The BJP’s national president may be elected next month. Sharma may be inducted into the national team of the party. Sharma’s five-year tenure as the party's state president has been successful. Thus, the BJP may use him in the centre.
