Eid Al-Fitr 2025: Australia Confirms Eid Celebration On Monday, March 31 As Shawwal Crescent Moon Not Sighted

Australia: The Grand Mufti of Australia and the Australian Fatwa Council on announced on Saturday that Ramadan 2025 will complete 30 days, with Sunday, March 30, 2025, marking the last day of the holy month of fasting from sunrise to sunset. Monday, March 31, 2025, will be the first day of Eid Al Fitr in Australia, based on astronomical data and moon sighting conditions for Shawwal 1446 AH.

Eid is celebrated on the first day of the month of Shawwal after the crescent moon for the month is sighted.

Islam follows a lunar calendar, which means that holidays and the beginning of new months are solely determined based on the moon’s sightings. Months can be either 29 or 30 days long, depending on such sightings.
