Sachin Yadav Clinches Gold In Javelin Throw At 38th National Games, Sets Record With 84.39m Throw

Sachin Yadav from Uttar Pradesh continued his impressive javelin throw journey by winning gold at the 38th National Games in Dehradun on February 12. The 25-year-old set a new personal best with an 84.39m throw, breaking the previous meet record of 82.23m set by Rajinder Singh in 2022.

In a tough nine-man final at Maharana Pratap Sports College, Sachin outperformed Rohit Yadav and Shivpal Singh. Rohit, returning from injury, secured silver with a best throw of 80.47m, while Vikash Sharma of Uttarakhand claimed bronze with 79.33m.

Only Sachin and Rohit managed throws beyond 80m in a competition that did not feature stars like Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena.

Sachin had a slow start with a 65.96m throw but improved steadily, reaching 76.43m in his second attempt, 81.26m in his fourth, and delivering his best throw in the fifth. With this performance, he now ranks fifth among Indian men in javelin, surpassing DP Manu’s 84.35m record.

Neeraj Chopra remains India's top javelin thrower with an 89.94m throw. Rohit Yadav, a rising talent, first crossed 80 m in 2023 and set a personal best of 82.69m last June.

Sachin, who started competing at the top level in 2020, has been focusing on consistency in 2024, with multiple throws over 75m, including two beyond 80m.
