With this victory, India became the first team to win the tournament three times, surpassing Australia’s two-title record. Additionally, Rohit Sharma joined MS Dhoni as only the second Indian captain to win multiple ICC white-ball trophies. He previously led India to T20 World Cup glory in 2024 in Barbados. Before him, MS Dhoni had won three ICC trophies, while Sourav Ganguly and Kapil Dev had each won one.
Under Rohit’s leadership, India became the first team in history to reach the final of all four major ICC tournaments consecutively:
2023 World Test Championship Final (Lost to Australia)
2023 ODI World Cup Final (Lost to Australia)
2024 T20 World Cup (Champions)
2025 Champions Trophy (Champions)
After suffering heartbreak against Australia twice in 2023, India staged a remarkable turnaround to win back-to-back ICC trophies
