Local residents and activists alleged that despite a written complaint submitted in October 2025 to the concerned department and the PMC Commissioner, no corrective action was taken. The administration’s continued apathy has now resulted in a major lapse, raising questions about the civic body’s accountability.
Following heavy rains on Thursday, water reportedly seeped into the office from the roof and adjoining areas, flooding parts of the building. Several documents related to tax collection and taxpayers were allegedly damaged due to the leakage and lack of basic maintenance.

Local residents and social activists have strongly criticised the PMC for its negligence.
'We had already alerted'
Sachin Bahirat, social activist and resident of Karve Nagar, speaking to The Free Press Journal, said, “We had already alerted the authorities last year about the dilapidated condition of this office, but no action has been taken so far. This office plays a crucial role in revenue collection for the civic body, yet it is being maintained in a highly unhygienic and unsafe condition. This is the very place where PMC collects taxes from citizens. At the very least, they should ensure that the office is well-maintained and provides a hygienic environment for employees and the public who visit daily.”

'Is the budget being looted?'
Baba Saiyyad, head of the Anti-Corruption Committee, Pune, highlighted, “A significant portion of PMC’s revenue, reportedly over 90 per cent, is generated through such tax collection centres. The damage to official records has further intensified concerns over data safety and administrative efficiency. They have installed street lights in the office. How can the PMC administration neglect the maintenance of such important office? Or is the budget being looted by any officials? This should be investigated thoroughly.”
