Pune Ranked Fourth Slowest City In World For Traffic, Average Travel Time Hits 33.22 Minutes for 10 Kilometers

While Pune traffic makes news every day and Punekars take to social media to raise issues, Pune has ranked as the world's fourth slowest city for traffic, with an average travel time of 33.22 minutes for 10 kilometers in TomTom's 14th edition of its TomTom Traffic Index. The city ranks 128th in the world for congestion.

TomTom (TOM2), the location technology specialist, releases the 14th edition of its TomTom Traffic Index, an annual report that provides a unique overview of global traffic trends in the first week of January.

Survey 2024

This year’s edition features 500 cities across 62 countries on 6 continents, making it the most robust and complete analysis ever made available to any observer. The TomTom Traffic Index uses unified metrics to rank these cities based on their average travel time as well as congestion levels. It provides city-by-city information that can help urban planners and policymakers tackle traffic-related challenges and make informed decisions for a better tomorrow.

The report revealed that the average time taken to travel 10 kilometers in Pune is now 33 minutes and 22 seconds, marking an increase of 6 minutes and 2 seconds from 2023, when it was 27 minutes and 20 seconds.

In comparison, commuters in Barranquilla face an average travel time of 36 minutes and 6 seconds, while Kolkata's figure stands at 34 minutes and 33 seconds. In Mumbai, the time to travel the same distance is 29 minutes and 26 seconds.
