Pune Metro Takes Firm Action Against Unauthorised Billboards To Preserve Public Infrastructure |
In a recent effort to combat encroachments on Pune Metro's infrastructure, unauthorised billboards were successfully removed along the metro's elevated route, specifically from Garware College to Vanaz, on Monday.
The Pune Metro administration has underscored its firm stance against defacement of this essential public infrastructure, stressing the importance of preserving the integrity of the metro's pillars and stations. Under the provisions of the Pune Metro Act 2002, more specifically Sections 72, 73, and 78, the metro is officially recognised as public property. This legal framework empowers authorities to take robust measures against any form of defacement, including the imposition of fines of up to Rs 500 and potential imprisonment for a duration ranging from 6 months to 10 years.
Shravan Hardikar, the Managing Director of Mahametro, made it unequivocally clear, stating, "In the event of unauthorised billboards being erected, strict action will be taken against those responsible under the Metro Act, with cases being registered with the local police." He also appealed to the civic responsibility of Pune's residents, emphasising that the Pune Metro is a shared public asset, and it is imperative that citizens refrain from any activities that could tarnish its image.
