Pune: Focus On Quality, Not Numbers, To Empower Next Generation, Says Dr Vishwajeet Kadam

Pune: As today’s generation is already well-versed in technology, educators' responsibility is to equip students with knowledge and skills that go beyond what technology can readily offer. The focus, therefore, must shift from merely increasing numbers to nurturing qualitative growth, deeper learning and overall excellence among students, said Dr Vishwajeet Kadam, Secretary and Pro Vice-Chancellor, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University.

The programme was attended by Vijaymala Kadam, Chairperson, School Education Committee; Dr Vivek Saoji, Vice-Chancellor; Dr Asmita Jagtap, Executive Director, Health Sciences Division; Dr M. S. Sagare and Dr K. D. Jadhav, Joint Secretaries; G. Jayakumar, Registrar; and Mrs Swapnali Vishwajeet Kadam, Chairperson, Bharati Vidyapeeth Rabindranath Tagore School of Excellence, along with principals, professors and teachers.

Dr Vishwajeet Kadam was speaking at the Teachers’ Day celebration organised by Bharati Vidyapeeth. The programme brought together senior leadership, academicians and educators to celebrate the contribution of teachers and reflect on the evolving role of education in a rapidly changing world.

He emphasised that education must continuously evolve to meet the expectations of a technology-driven generation. Teachers, he said, need to move beyond conventional knowledge delivery and prepare students to think critically, innovate, solve complex problems and create meaningful knowledge.

In a significant announcement aimed at strengthening the research ecosystem, Dr Kadam said Bharati Vidyapeeth will cover publication fees charged in foreign currency for research publications by its faculty members, encouraging greater participation in national and international research. He expressed confidence that, despite the challenges confronting the education sector, Indian universities can steadily enhance the quality and impact of their academic and research contributions and secure a stronger presence in global university rankings.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shivajirao Kadam, Chancellor, Bharati Vidyapeeth, highlighted the institution’s longstanding contribution to education and society. He noted that Bharati Vidyapeeth has played an important role in promoting women’s education and empowering women through access to quality education. He urged faculty members to give research the highest priority alongside teaching and to work collectively towards developing a stronger and more vibrant research culture within the institution.

Prof. Milind Joshi delivered the introductory remarks, while Dr K. D. Jadhav proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Jyoti Mandlik compered the programme.

As part of the celebration, principals, professors and teachers were felicitated by the dignitaries on the dais in recognition of their valuable contribution to education and institution-building.

The celebration served as a meaningful reminder that the true measure of education lies not merely in the number of students it reaches, but in the quality of minds it nurtures.
