Nashik Water Crisis: 3.18 Lakh Residents Depend On Tankers Across 654 Villages And Hamlets Amid Monsoon Wait

Nashik: Water scarcity has reached critical levels in Nashik district as residents eagerly await the arrival of the monsoon. Currently, drinking water is being supplied via tankers to a total of 654 locations across the district, comprising 174 villages and 480 hamlets/settlements. Consequently, approximately 3,18,708 citizens are entirely dependent on tanker-supplied water.

According to the district administration, no government tankers are currently operational; instead, water is being supplied through 179 private tankers making 395 trips daily.

The scarcity is intensifying day by day as water levels in the district's 26 dam projects deplete rapidly. The administration has urged citizens to use water judiciously. There is hope that the situation will improve if the monsoon arrives early.

It is also being emphasised that special attention needs to be paid to water management in light of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
