Nashik: Doctor Looking For Bride Duped Of ₹11.86 Lakh By Matrimonial Fraudsters

Nashik: In a shocking incident, a gang allegedly cheated a doctor looking for a bride by posing as his prospective bride and her family members. The suspects reportedly collected ₹11,86,561 from the doctor in instalments under various pretexts, including dowry, clothes, wedding arrangements, mandap and catering expenses. The fraud was allegedly carried out after luring the doctor through an online matrimonial platform. A case has been registered at Ambad Police Station.

According to information received, the 39-year-old victim is a doctor running a dental clinic in the Ambad area. While searching for a suitable bride, he had registered himself on a matrimonial app. A suspected woman using a fake profile in the name of Dr Sayali Patil contacted him through her mobile phone and social media.

During their conversations, the woman allegedly mentioned several doctors from Nashik, which helped gain the victim’s confidence. After claiming that the marriage had been finalised, she allegedly introduced him to two other suspects, posing as her brother and uncle.

The trio allegedly demanded money from the doctor in instalments for various wedding-related expenses, including dowry, jewellery, wedding clothes, the wedding trousseau, mandap arrangements and food expenses. The doctor reportedly transferred a total of ₹11,86,561 to them.

However, after receiving the money, the suspected woman and the two alleged family members suddenly stopped communicating with the doctor. Their mobile phones were also found switched off. Realising that he had been duped, the doctor approached the Ambad Police Station and lodged a complaint.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. The investigation team is conducting a technical analysis of the suspects’ mobile numbers, fake identities and CDR/SDR records to trace the accused and establish the details of the transactions.
