Jalgaon: A major reshuffle is likely in the Congress party in Jalgaon district, with both District Presidents set to be replaced under the party’s ‘Sanghatan Sujan’ (Organisational Renewal) campaign. A team of party observers will visit the district from April 3 to April 7 to assess ground-level feedback and organisational performance.

The move follows similar initiatives in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, as the party begins its revival efforts in Maharashtra. The aim of the campaign is to understand the views of local workers and make changes in leadership based on their feedback. This was announced by District Presidents Pradeep Pawar and Shyamkant Tayade during a press conference at Congress Bhavan.

As part of the exercise, a team of six observers will review party functioning across Assembly constituencies within each Lok Sabha segment. The campaign will also focus on strengthening the organisation and increasing the participation of women in party activities.

Party leaders said that a lack of leadership rotation over the years has led to stagnation. As a result, long-serving office-bearers are likely to be replaced. In Jalgaon, both District Presidents who currently represent two Lok Sabha constituencies are expected to step down. Pawar said the campaign would help improve coordination and strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

The Congress, once a dominant force in the district until the 1980s, has seen a steady decline over the years. The party has not won a Lok Sabha seat from Jalgaon for a long time. It currently has no MLAs in the district and holds no seats in the Jalgaon Municipal Corporation.

Senior leaders like Pratibha Patil, Madhukarrao Chaudhari, and K.M. Bapu Patil once represented the district in the Assembly. Today, the party struggles to mobilise workers even for public events.

Despite this, a section of voters in the district still supports the Congress. Reaching out to this base and rebuilding the organisation will be a major challenge for the observers. Party workers are now closely watching how the leadership handles this crucial phase.
