A truck carrying marble from Rajasthan to Thane collided with the direction post in front of THE HP petrol pump near Kapur Wadi in Thane on Tuesday morning. The collision was so intense that three people including the truck driver were trapped inside the truck for two hours.

Soon after the accident, people gathered around the truck and tried to rescue the three trapped inside the driver cabin, but failed in their attempt. Meanwhile, passersby informed the Kapurbawdi police about the incident.

Thane regional disaster management cell (RDMC) chief Avinash Sawant said, “We received information that a truck carrying 25 tonnes of marble had collided with a pole near the HP petrol pump. A RDMC team, along with Kapurbawdi police station officials, traffic department officials, and ambulance and fire department personnel were immediately dispatched to the spot.”

He added that the driver and two others were rescued after two hours of operations. “The truck driver suffered some injuries and he has been admitted to a nearby hospital,” he said.

According to Sawant, the road was closed for two hours and to prevent further traffic snarls, the police team along with the help of RDMC personnel, towed the truck to the side of the road and the traffic was cleared.

Senior police inspector Uttam Sonawane of Kapurbawdi police station said, “The truck was going to Wagle Estate but the driver lost control and hit a direction board pillar while reaching Ghodbunder road.”
