Thane Municipal Corporation Cuts 212 Illegal Tap Connections In Mumbra-Diva; Registers 4 FIRs In Special Water Theft Crackdown

Thane: Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has a special drive to trace the illegal tap connections in the water supply lines in Mumbra and Diva. It is notable that there is a significant number of illegal tap connections in Mumbra and Diva.
A total of 212 illegal tap connections were unearthed during the drive, and four FIRs have been registered against the individuals responsible for obtaining connections illegally.
The special drive aims to disconnect illegal tap connections, including residential and commercial ones across the city, resulting in the cutoff of a total of 212 illegal tap connections.
According to the TMC official, on the first day of the drive, a total of 44 tap connections were cut off; on the second day, a total of 29 tap connections were cut off; and on the third day (Friday), a total of 57 tap connections were cut off, along with the dismantling of two unauthorized RO projects and five tanks in Diva-Mumbra.
On the fourth day, a total of 82 tap connections were cut off. According to the TMC officials, the water department has registered a total of four FIRs against the responsible person who allegedly connected taps in an illegal manner.
An official said that during the drive, it was learned that three illegal commercial tap connections and 21 illegal residential tap connections were found to be illegal. Following this, they were cut off between Kalyan Phata and the Y Junction area. A total of 35 illegal residential tap connections were cut off from the Y Junction to Mumbra.
Meanwhile, a total of 23 illegal residential tap connections were disconnected from Diva Chowk to Mahotsav Maidam, and one unauthorized tanker filling station was closed during the drive, as informed by Suburban Engineer Vinod Pawar.

TMC officials said that they formed a team based on ward-wise distribution across the TMC belt. The team's aim is to disconnect the unauthorized tap connections and remove the unauthorized filling stations. Action was taken by TMC officials in areas such as Mumbra, Diva, Agasan, Kalyan Phata to Y Junction, and Diva chowk-Mahotsav Maidan.
